When I first heard this song,I loved it. Slow love song of sorts. Then I was taken back by who was actually singing it. A Baldheaded woman?
That made me even more intrigued by it. One hit wonder though. The song was actually written by Prince and he sung it at his concerts every so often.
Brings back some memories, good and bad. Still a great song and it is one of my favorite all time.

I always liked that song also. I found out Prince wrote it when he died. I was surprised. I'm glad you put song(s)because just one would be impossible for me. I love music and have always said if I'm ever reincarnated I want to come back and be able to make music. In this life I love to listen but my two drunk kareoke sings are legend in this town. My old girlfriend texts me now and then when she hears LA woman by the doors. It will never be the same she says.

Edit: I remember hearing this song growing up, loved it, but never really knew exactly what he was singing about. Later found out it was largely a dedication to Buddy Holly, who the singer(McLean) was a big fan of. Holly died in a plane crash along with Ritchie Valens, J.P."The Big Bopper" Richardson and the Pilot on February 3, 1959. " His eight-minute-long "rock and roll American dream" became an anthem for an entire generation - who memorized every line.
Their children in turn grew up singing it - fascinated by the mysterious lyrics with their cryptic references to 50s innocence, the turbulent 60s, and 70s disillusion.
Who broke the church bells? Who was the jester who sang for the king and queen? And what really was revealed "the day the music died"?
There are fan websites entirely dedicated to solving these mysteries, where literary detectives pore over the clues, line by line.
The song's 69-year-old architect has always remained tight-lipped.
But now at long last, the inspirations behind his Song of the Century are to be revealed after McLean put his original manuscript up for auction. These 16 pages of handwritten notes, which have lain hidden away in a box in his home for 43 years, were sold for $1.2m (£800,000) at Christie's in New York, to an anonymous bidder." link

The First album I had was Herman's Hermits, and also listened to Tommy James & The Shondells,The Turtles,The Hollies & Three Dog Night to name a few, as long as it wasn't Country & Western. One of my favorites has to be from Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Hall and Oates are one of my favorite bands. This song I didnt know much about in 1976 when it was released, but heard it later in life in the 80's when Hall and Oates made it big. Back then I was just a kid,but I met someone who I loved dearly. But her parents left to live in Germany and well.....She was gone. One of my favorites of all time. This was done at Daryl's house after he retired. Duet with Rob Thomas.
I still like the original long version better than any version.

haha Jeffrey is a hard rocker. That black Sabath song brought back lots of memories. Thanks. I am more of a romantic I guess in music. Since we are telling stories of our life I will tell one. And as far as Dads go Jeffrey, I will get back to that. Cuz I have a dad story that goes with a song. Okay here is my story. It was around 1983 My son was born in 81. I had a pretty wife and a daughter and a son,and had bought a house. I had a business that was doing great. I worked from five in the morning to often late at night selling jobs. I was a pool contractor at the age of twenty five. Had twelve employees. I was also pretty good looking I've been told. My wife must of had what we now call post partium depression. We didn't know about that. She would not get dressed, feed the kids, or me. She sat in a rocking chair and knitted all day. I had to come home to change my sons diaper. One of my employees had a friend who we went out to a bar with. She was real smart, pretty, energetic, and sexy. I strayed. I started seeing her. And as the song goes. "I fooled around and fell in love" She had a son same age as my son. She lived at her parents house cuz her husband ran off with someone else. She was 21. We bought a tent and lived in it in December at a great campground overlooking the lake. My wife just up and left and went to Missouri. So Lynne and I were stuck with three kids and no help from our ex spouses. haha. We had a song right off the bat. She was great and we had a terrific time raising those three kids. Oh yeah and the daughter we had together also. So four kids in this house at once. Her son is my step son for life. This was our song. One time I came home from work (to the tent} and she had the boom box set up and played it. She was making dinner on the coleman stove. www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAQbD3bxPrM

I'll go on with my story or Lynne. Cuz to this day we love each other deeply. We have a grandson with a grandaughter on the way. We were married for ten years. We just are better now apart as has been for twenty years or more. But the twelve years we spent together were fantastic and we both know that. Funny thing, when I had my open heart surgery, both my ex wives and Marlene were there hugging each other and crying and praying. My first wife is back in town and has been for years. Lynne and I both like this also towards our end. www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yYchgX1fMw

I dont know anyone who doesnt like this song. My kids were singing it when they were 5/6 years old. I remember this song from my school years, smoking pot, playing pool, drinking mad dog and listening to this. Man if I could relive those days. Seems like another lifetime. Good times with friends, and being young.
