Today, November 7, 2017: Roy Halladay died when the ICON A5 aircraft he was flying in crashed into the Gulf of Mexico. Halladay is presumed to have been piloting the plane, given that he is reported to have been the only passenger onboard at the time of the crash. The crash was reported to have happened about 10 miles (16 km) off the coast of St. Petersburg, Florida in water 6 feet (1.8 m) deep. The Pasco County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit responded to the accident after a call at noon reporting a sport plane having crashed upside down into shallow water. The plane was reported to be Halladay's, and he had tweeted in the past about his excitement about acquiring the plane. Just 40 years old 8× All-Star, 2× Cy Young Award, 2× MLB wins leader, Pitched a perfect game and pitched a postseason no-hitter. We loved this guy in Philly. Sad news.

I live in pasco and rode my motorcycle into work right past the scene. It was mass chaos there were sheriff helicopters flying down the street. I didn’t know what was happening until I got to work. Sad stuff man way to young

Really sad news! I just heard this on the radio and thought I misheard the update. One of the true greats in the MLB! He was my favorite Blue Jay and when he moved on it was a sad day but nothing like today. I pray his family and friends find the peace and comfort they need in this time.

Rest in peace Roy. For sure one of the best pitchers ever imo Well, one thing is for SURE; he was the best pitcher in the league a number of seasons during his career. I do believe he deserves to be on a list with some of the best ever. Now I'm feeling like pullin' up some statistics/achievements and comparing some of the best pitchers ever.
