This team seems to have reason for hope. The stories I heard about Winston baffled me coming out of college. Really sounded like he was partially retarded actually. He had a decent rookie season though, and has all the ability to become better. I'd still be concerned about his Psyche though. Doug Martin re-emerged as a star once again. Mike Evans seems like a decent WR. They could really use the TE Jenkins to step up his game though.

Buccaneers vs. JaguarsWinston completed only three of 10 passes for 28 yards with a touchdown and interception. He also gained 15 yards on two rushes. Mike Evans caught two passes for 18 yards and a touchdown on five targets. While inefficient from a per-target perspective, Evans had a 14-yard gain on a 4th-and-2, then later caught a fade pass for a four-yard touchdown on the same drive. He accounted for half of the targets while Jameis Winston was in the game. Charles Sims (ankle) gained 20 yards on five carries. Fully recovered from a minor ankle injury, Sims got the start in place of Doug Martin (bruised ribs), who is also a bit banged up. The result was an unusual stat line, with Sims getting five carries and zero targets. Seferian-Jenkins hauled in all three of his targets for 36 yards. Seferian-Jenkins may be on the cusp of regaining his starting job.

Browns vs. BuccaneersWinston completed 16 of 25 passes for 259 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. Damn. He also gained nine yards on two carries but fumbled twice, recovering one. That's a lot of yards in one half of football. That CLE D must be really bad. Happy to see them come week 1 Evans caught five passes for 115 yards and a touchdown (five targets). Vincent Jackson caught four passes for 78 yards on nine targets, with Charles Sims contributing three receptions for 16 yards and a touchdown. Conspicuously absent was TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins, who caught his only target for a five-yard gain. Martin (hamstring) gained 18 yards on four carries. Martin proved his health by making a brief appearance.

Tampa is coming at us without Sims, Martin, Jackson, and Seferian jenkins. But for some reason that likely won't matter, they have former Falcons on both sides of the ball, and are a talented group overall. I expect a dogfight Thursday.
