As always at the beginning of the year I am excited and optimistic about the new Giants season. I was happy for the most part with the draft and definetly happy with the free agency. So ill dump a few thoughts here that I am muddling over. Secondary…..Eli Apple in the slot? I know Jenkins gets beat down the field from time to time but hes a good corner. DRC is similar. I think for the giants need Apple to be reliable in the slot. Injuries really hurt us last season. This year Nat Berhe will be healthy, Collins will have more experience and im excited to see what Darian Thompson does as a rookie. All in all I think the giants will have a much improved secondary this year. Dominate? Probably not but potentially so. Still a young secondary for the most part
D-Line………My favorite thing here is getting Harrison. JPP will be closer to form this year and Hankins is Hankins, he’s been solid. Harrison is an incredible run stopper and I think this whole line will be great at the run. Vernon is my question mark. Spending the cash like the giants did traditionally doesn’t work like its supposed to and I fear that Vernon may be a disappointment. Hopefully Ill eat those words. Ive always believed a great pass rush has to have dangerous linebackers to at least make the OL think they may do something. Which brings me to the area that concerns me the most
Linebackers………..Unless BJ Goodson is able to adapt and become a superstar we are gonna get killed over the middle and not get to the QB to stop the passing game. I was happy they went for a LVB in the draft but I was so hoping for Floyd.
Ill add some offensive thoughts later.

The offense.
Passing……..So the Giants already have a top 10 pass game. This will be the third year under the mcadoo offense so we should be more efficient. Cruiz comes back with huge question marks. But those marks may be countered by Shepard. Tye was good last year and donnell has been ok. Newcomer Jerell Adams is said to be great defending the pass rush which fills a gap. I think the passing game will be even better this year. OL………Not improved at all. Exactly the same. If this was to improve I would call the passing game a top 5 possibly in best case scenario.
Rushing………..Is it the backs? Is it the Line? Is it both? If Andre Williams is true in saying he will have a break out year those questions above will be answered. If not we may never know.
Its gonna be a rough road yet again. Trying to pass with a subpar supporting run attack. Id like to see Vereen used even more this year in the short pass attack. Id also like to see the Giants go down field a little more. I predict Eli to have 2 less picks (12) and the same Tds (35).

Ill add some offensive thoughts later....danb.
haha I'll add an offensive thought. I don't like Eli. he dissed my town. haha. how is that for offensive?
I'm actually glad he did though. I think I'd rather have Rivers and the other guys we got in that deal. I know I know but Eli has the rings. Plax never let me forget that.

Giants just had good teams when they won. It could be Rivers with the two rings had it been different

IDK about Williams. I haven't saw anything from him that makes me believe he can be much better. He averaged less than 3 yards per carry last season, and he also doesn't catch the ball. Sorry, but I think he's garbage. I actually think Coughlin messed up by allowing Williams ANY touches over Jennings. I agree that they can maybe use Vereen a bit more on passing downs. However, I also think he shouldn't be running the ball over a healthy Jennings much, if at all. If Jennings is healthy, you gotta keep feeding him the rock. He's the type of back that gains momentum over the course of a game. Coughlin made a huge mistake rotating the RB's in and out so damn much. That's my honest opinion. Jennings is capable of doing it all, if healthy. I've watched him play, and he's one of the most overall talented backs you all have had there for quite a bit, but Coughlin held him back by playing musical chairs with the RB's. Hopefully for you, your new coach is smarter in that aspect.

Jennings cant run far enough or more than 2 times in a row so he will never get tired, so Williams would get zero snaps. Jennings career is on the down slope, would he be more productive as the sole RB, maybe maybe not. . Im not impressed with Vereen as a runner. Soooo looks like Il be riding the perkins wagon for this year. Im hoping he shows a lot in the pre season. Otherwise he may not get a chance. I do hope also that they wont mix the runners all up like the old man did last year. I think the RB position is my biggest concern this season.

Yes, Jennings is the oldest of the group, and is NOT the future....but he can quite possibly be the man to help you all reach the promised land in the next few seasons still. I say dump Williams and his 2.9 per yards average w/no receiving ability, and give Jennings the most carries with a mix of the rookie Perkins in there, and use Vereen strictly on passing downs more....but stop trying to have him run the ball.

Giants vs. BillsAndre Williams is a scrub. Not sure why they still giving him the rock at all. He fumbled of course. I don't see anything on Eli or R.Jennings, outside of Eli's one pass to ODB. Odell Beckham had one decent play. Not sure if more than a catch though? Where was Shepard? Did he even play? Wasn't much to see here, unless I'm missing something danb6177

I think if penalties are considered they netted negative yards for the game. Nothing positive to take from that game.

Giants vs. JetsEli takes a big hit, get's rattled, and then throws a horrible pass for an INT next series to Revis. Manning completed 10-of-15 passes for 65 yards and an interception. Manning played through the opening drive of the second half, but the Giants' starting offense struggled over that time span Saturday. The quarterback averaged just 4.3 yards per attempt and threw an interception while failing to help his team put any points on the board. I know it's just preseaon, but the Giants offense has not looked good at all. This was the first game in 10 quarters that the Giants put up points, and it wasn't the starters either. Not sure what to make of it, but it's not encouraging, to say the least. Cruz (groin) played 29 snaps and had one catch on two targets against the Jets. He was open deep on one play, but Eli Manning underthrew him. Cruz emerged unscathed from the contest and now has a chance to stick as the team's No. 2 or No. 3 option. Vereen rushed six times for 11 yards and caught two passes (on two targets) for 18 yards. Vereen tied starting running back Rashad Jennings in leading the Giants with six carries Saturday, but like Jennings, found very little room to run. I don't know danb6177, looks pretty damn dismal over there. Starting offense couldn't put up a single point all preseason?

The D played nice last night against Brady. But ya know it's just pre season I don't put to much thought into it. I'll make an assessment after week 1.
