Now that my dad is living with us & my wife is watching the grand kids all day the cooking duties have been given to me. There are somethings I can cook quite well & I try to cook a variety of different foods so that my dad doesn't get tired eating the same old stuff. Today I cooked lamp loin chops for the first time, and must say they turned out quite well everybody liked them, we also had country ribs, baked beans, lima beans, red beans & rice and dirty rice.
Sunday around 1:00 pm I went with my son-inlaw over to KB Vapor Hut and purchased a vapor pen to help me stop smoking.I know its only been 4 days but I've only had 4 cigarettes in that whole time & I used to smoked about 2 packs a day. The vapor pen is working great and I no longer feel the need or desire to light-up a cigarette (on the few I have smoked they now taste terrible). Thanks Eddie it was great advice.

good luck with the vape. it helped me lot. a year and a half ago i got one but never really used it till a few months later. one day i did the "i quit" routine for the 100th time and threw out my smokes. what was different was i had a vape pen. first three days sucked but after that it wasn't bad. after a week i liked the vape just fine and no longer needed smokes. told my brother to give a week and he succeeded as well and now vapes only and uses juice with no nicotine. i had about three real cigs over a year till i moved to colorado where i smoke a little at work (peer pressure!) but never buy em and go weeks and months without any. gl. you can do it. just grind through the first week

Thanks packdog yeah I've tried to quit more than once never going more than a week before I started smoking again. My son-inlaw tried the e-cigarrettes but went right back to smoking, I even tried them for a while but just didn't seem to help much. Since he started vaping my son-inlaw hasn't smoked in 7 months and has been lowering the nicotine, he's almost down to nothing. After seeing how vaping helped him quit I decided to give it a try and it has been more effective then anything I've tried in the past. Tomorrow will be a week since I started using the vape pen and each day it gets a little easier.

Looks like I need to try it. I wish I would have never started smoking at age 42. I'm a bonehead.

What's on your mind you ask...My Brother Nick. It's his birthday today and I really love and miss him so much. He would have been 32 today. It's been two years now since he's been gone. Feels like yesterday in my mind still, like time stopped moving or something since then. Can't really explain it. Rest in peace to my younger brother who left this world too early. Had so many talents and still so much to experience and achieve in life. I get choked up just thinking about it, but no matter how much I try not to... I can't help but doing so everyday.
If you love someone who is an addict, be sure not to ignore it or support it by any means or fashion. Force them to get the help that they need if you have the power to do so

Aug 7th will be my 1 year 'versary smoke-free. Having smoked since I was 15 with a couple decent length quits in between (1 for 3 years, 1 for 1), these are my views - or what works or what def does NOT work for me...
Lemme preface this by telling you how I quit. There were 2 free programs through the U of Penn. The first one failed cuz I was living with Danny, smoked even more than me. I was given either the patch, Chantix, or a placebo. I'm positive it was the patch. The 2nd program was successful. *Edit: That was after Danny moved out, the only reason success was remotely possible* . That was 100% patch, the twist was the mental exercises, which did not help IMO (premise was your brain is fuzzy when you quit, ridiculous), but the program was still successful. I had a private counselor, many visits, big binder of quit info. No joke, if you had to pay for something like this out of pocket, probably 1 - 2 grand. Anyway, my take....
The e-cigs are evil. You should be aware that smoking is a stronger addiction than dope in a way. The mental aspect takes years to go away. A lot of my counseling had to do with managing the 'triggers'. Unlike dope, it's an all day thing, and it's endless. Obvious ones are morning coffee, alcohol, the phone, after dinner, the old sex cliche lol. But there are far more insidious ones - like maybe a TV commercial or poker game break. But the worst is just being around smokers, and having easy access. I'd beg Danny for 'just a couple to get me through the day'. Or just take them from his jacket. But just being around it, seeing it, smelling it, all huge triggers.
The trick is eliminating as many triggers as possible as frequently as possible, at least in the beginning. Then there is substitution (i.e. gum, some pleasurable activity or exercise). And positive reinforcement, like lists of pros and cons. So bottom line, e-cigs are still the act of smoking, the biggest trigger of all IMO.
Anyway, once Danny moved out I was able to quit. And when it got colder, I knew there was no way I'd walk 2 blocks to buy them at a gas station. If they were right there in front of me, I'd smoke 'em. And it would be like starting from scratch almost. I think of the few times I went back to smoking. And it was NEVER like 'The hell with it, I'm gonna start smoking again.' It was always giving yourself permission to 'cheat'.
That's another cardinal rule in the counseling. You can never give yourself permission. Instead you forgive yourself, and get right back on track.

eddiej RIP brother Nick. So sad. Hang in there buddy. Nice posts about smoking. I get nagged at constantly by Marlene. She quit three years ago yesterday. Nothing worse than a reformed smoker nagging at you. haha. She had help. She had her accident and while in the ICU for eight days they gave her the patch. She woke up and hated cigarettes. Maybe I need a really hard thump on the head.

Well..Im still smoking. I wish I would have never started, because I hate something having control over me like that, and I hate that I probably have spent the cost of a new 2015 truck on cigarettes.
Although...I have cut way back. Im donw to less than a pack a day. On good days I only smoke maybe 10.
As long as I dont eat,have sex,work,get on PC,play cards,drink beer,drink coffee,watch football,play golf,fish,or burn cd's....I dont need a cigarette. LOL

Yes, I meant to offer my condolences on the anniversary of Eddie's brother's death. Thx. August 1st is actually his B-Day. He died shortly after his 30th B-Day two years ago...September 3rd. I can never forget it.
