Okay I just learned something. I didn't think you could do that if you had moved your king.

You also cannot castle to get out of check or into check. I had not moved my king so far or the rook. I had captured your queen with my f3 knight not my king

Hey you cant do that. Your pawn went sideways, took my pawn, and then went forward. All in the same move.

Got to go to work. I moved my pawn two forward to protect my knight. Our pawns were side by side. Does your screen show I only moved it one or something? Something is wrong here. I used previous move thing and checked it over and over.

I used previous move thing and checked it over and over. Ill humor you craig, but I think you know what you are doing more than you say. But perhaps you dont know all the rules. The move I used is called en passant. Its a french word meaning in passing. The move prevents a pawn from being able to jump forward to avoid conflict. There are rules in place for use of en passant, it has its limits en.wikipedia.org/wiki/En_passant

I seriously have never heard of that. I read the info you gave me. Thanks. What is the fifth rank they are talking about? I'm flattered you think I know what I'm doing more than I said. haha. I only know how the pieces move, and I know the object of the game. Maybe I will be good by Christmas when I get to play my grandson. Okay. Let the game renew. I seriously thought the site messed up. I was going to have Doc look at his board and see what he saw.

The files are what has a letter a-h. Look at the board and see the ranks and files. This is how you keep track of moves. Like a normal opening for white is paws E4. That means you move the E2 pawn to the E4 square.

geez I have learned more on this game than anytime in my little playing life. Thanks again. I always wondered what the letters and numbers meant when people say it. I never noticed the rank and file. I love it.

So it seems the white has an advantage on the move you made that confused me. Black guys should be able to do that in the forth rank. Advantage to white only?
