I know mine are probably before you were born, but Leslie "Speedy" Duncan was a good one. I love the part of this where they say "Speedy came to camp with nine cents in his pocket and challenged all comers in a 100 yd race for a dime. Speedy never lost." haha. A friend of mine recently saw him on the trolly. Asked for an autograph and Speedy had nice pictures in his brief case. Signed one for him. He gave it to me as he knows how much I would love it. Speedy intercepted a pass and returned it over 100 yards for a then record TD. www.youtube.com/watch?v=flN9tlgtwR4

The man who stepped on my foot, ate my hot dog, and made me cry when I was seven. He was responsible for me being able to sit on the Charger bench because he felt so bad. He also was a friend of MB and that is how I met MB. Ernie "Big Cat" Ladd. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y89WcK-CfyM

The Great One.....Wayne Gretzky You know, that makes me think of another that may be the best of all... Air Jordan Edit: In all reality, I don't think this one counts as a legitimate nickname. Don't remember anyone referring to him as that.

Lenny "Nails" Dykstra was my favorite player for awhile with the Phillies. Only image I could find of him with the nickname on it, so go ahead and bust my chops anyway for putting up a shirtless man

Okay I got the winner. Ya all might be to young but this guys nickname was so fitting it was amazing. He made me laugh. I couldn't really find a video to do his antics justice. This guy strutted like a bird. He talked to the ball a lot. He was The Bird. Mark "the bird" Fidrych. www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVPsRWrSz_k

My Goose story, I have told before. But its beautiful.
My oldest daughter who is 39 now was about ten. We lived close to the ball park. I went often I almost always took my daughter. She fell in love with Goose for some reason. One night game I took her, we had seats at the very end of the field level, on third base side, next to the bull pin. The bull pin guys sat on a bench that we could see very well. We were in about the tenth row.
Jennifer, my daughter, had white hair, fair skin and blue eyes. She was very outstanding. She sat on the end. I bought her a pennant, ball, and cap. She took those things to her seat and proceeded to stare Goose down. She constantly looked at him. She watched the game also. So there we were, her so close to Goose. The game was close and we were winning in about the sixth inning. I asked the guy in front of me if he had a pen? He said "Why?" I said "I'm going to try and get Gooses autograph for Jen." He said "yes I have a pen, here, but we are season ticket holders, we are here all the time, he won't even look up here even after the game"
Well my cute little ten year old must have won his heart. In the seventh inning he walked over the the edge of the seats and had to reach up. He said "young lady what is your name?" She said "Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeennnnnnnnnnnnnnifffffffffffer" as she was shaking. He said " Can I sign your ball?"
He wrote "To Jennifer, from Goose Gossage" He then went into the game and saved the game. The season ticket holders around us were totally shocked and actually cheering for the event!
I will always have a soft spot for what he did for her.

I will always have a soft spot for what he did for her. That is so freaking awesome. What a great memory. I'm sure you've told it to us before, but I forgot. Thx for sharing it again. I'm sure your daughter probably still remembers that night, to this day... 29 years later? You just gained a 200 word trophy for that one Hail to the "Goose" for that one....
