I had been sick with a cold for a few days and all of a sudden I could not breath. Thought it was pnemonia or something. The doctor after the tests said I may have a little mucus in there but not much. My left lung is smaller than my right lung and the muscle at the bottom of that lung does not work. I think it has been that way most of my life because I have always been able to feel it. Even back in my wrestling and surfing days. Still not sure why this happened but I have been complaining about shallow breathing since the operation. Well all of a sudden it was super shallow. They gave a breathing treatment that relaxes the muscles and that worked. So they gave me antibiotics for the sickness and an inhaler for the lungs. Seems to be working. Welcome back. Danny was recently in the hospital with a pneumonia, they said it was a bacterial infection (?). He was given IV Levacore (sp?) that didn't work, and then something that started with a 'c' that did work. They sent him home with and portable oxygen tank and a bigger one for his room. He doesn't need it anymore, but it is a bit scary. I used to use Albuterol when I lived in Seattle. The extreme symptoms stopped when I moved here, so IDK if it was something in the air. But I remember feeling so scared that 'what if I didn't have that inhaler?'. So I do hope your smoking days are over.

My smoking days are long gone. I don't vape or smoke, haven't since November. It is real scary not to be able to breath. I asked the doctor if the cat scan or chest exray could tell what damage smoking might have done. He said I don't have any sign of enfazema (sp) or lung cancer. No real sign of smoking damage. I wanted to know if since I quit will my problems get better. He said no because what they found was not caused by that. I forget what they found so I'm going to the medical records place on monday and get the report.
Hope Danny is getting better.

Cancer is one thing. COPD, which there is no cure for is entirely another. Of course, there are levels of severity. Reaches a point where it's all about damage control and further prevention. Your doc may be wrong, your symptoms may well improve regardless of whether or not the cause was smoke related. Smoking never helps. I'll tell Danny, thanks. He'll be over soon to watch the Nascar race. Hope you continue to get better as well.

I see a pulmonary guy, trust me. Well its actually a gal. She's the one that gave me the breathing treatment that worked. It was medicine that I breathed in for half an hour.

Haven't heard anything about your dad lately and I'm almost afraid to ask.

I'll still promote it, and hopefully others will contribute filling in the blanks. Plenty of good threads, especially for ff. Just don't have the time myself to fill in all the blanks. If it's meant to be, it will be. Like I said, an extra 10-15 people would be perfect.

For the most part I'm the only one who can calm her down. It's no fun watching your parent doing this. Love ya Jeffery. Look forward to football. You are the man who has kept us all together.

Jeffrey really has kept several leagues together, especially keeper ones. I don't even know what's going on in the G-Y league, haven't been to that PBs in a couple months probably, oops. No life experience totally prepares you for aging parents. Frustrating for all involved and for different reasons. So many conflicting emotions. You do all you can and still feel helpless. You are frustrated and frazzled at the demands, and often feel guilty about it, cuz you're still thankful and grateful for every day your loved one is still with you. We take some comfort in knowing we are not alone in our trying to stay strong and do the best we can.
