He went yesterday with a bus load of others to go through all the medical checks. It's an overnight thing. Going to head out to pick him up shortly.
Usually after the medical clearance, you've got to wait around at home for a phone call until they find a job that your test scoring qualifies you for.
Thankfully, my son had an excellent score on his testing, and they've already offered him the job that he was basically shooting for... Air Craft Electrical Maintenance.
He ships out in January. I'm so proud and happy for him.

Like I told you, even as a former Navy man, I have to admit that the air force has the best gig. Congratulations to him.

Very nice man! Not sure how I missed that your son was in the service. Well, he wasn't in the service officially until now. January to be technical, when he'll ship out. He went to ROTC program in HS for a few years. Such a smart young man.

He's now done with MEPS (Military Entrance Processing Station) where applicants for military service go to complete the enlistment process. He's now been officially sworn in as a US Airman. His recruiter told us that only 4 out of 500 applicants he worked with were accepted, and my son Dennis is one of them. He also told us that my son was the first one he's ever heard of getting offered a job right out of the MEPS process. I'm obviously SUPER proud of him. We had so many obstacles in this process in order to get the wheels rolling in the right direction. I had to personally call and talk to his recruiter and give him my personal and truthful testimony to the character of my son. I told him how my son has never given me any attitude whenever I asked him to do anything, how he just drops whatever he's doing to get it done without any backtalk ever, and how I thought he'd make the Air Force proud to have him as one of their own. I obviously made an impression upon him, because he instantly called my son right afterwards to set up an interview. Perseverance paid off in the end. Dennis wasn't even originally sure what branch of the military he was interested in at first, when he was doing the ROTC program in HS. Actually, at first, he was even considering getting into security to possibly become a police officer when it was all said and done. I convinced him what a bad idea that actually is in today's society, where police are being villainized with a target on their backs. That job doesn't pay enough for the stress and trauma it causes a person or their family life, imo. Especially when you consider his ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) test scores were so high and his options were plentiful. Thank the Lord he took my advice seriously. He now has been assigned to be part of the Aircraft Electrical Maintenance crew. He'll start off working specifically on perhaps the biggest aircrafts they have, the Lockheed C-5 Galaxy. Next step is basic training in Texas (9- 1/2 weeks). Then he'll go through 90 days Vo-Tech schooling for that specific aircraft. After that he'll have his choice of what base in the country he chooses to go to work at.
Travis AFB in Fairfield, CA is his top choice right now.
From there, he'd be able to spend some off duty time in the Lake Tahoe area. Check this out, he starts this entire process on January 1st, New Years Day, after a night of fireworks. I swear, it's not that often when a plan works out nearly perfect, so I feel blessed that this one seems to have done exactly that.

My son was assinged to the command center for the operation against ISIS over in Dubai for several months sat at the big board with top brass planning missions as a Navy liaison. It is a AF base and he swore it was nicer than most country clubs. The AF always seems to have the best facilities and living quarters for their personnel.
I remember my first day to report to work in Korea. Our CO was a very distinguished looking Navy Captain. I was very intimidated by my surroundings from the time I hit Osan AFB and was hoping he would say something that would put me at ease. He told me he gave the same advice to every new arrival. “You can’t drink it all and you can’t fuck it all, so don’t try.” I was a bit taken aback and confused, but I got it when some of the guys took me downtown that evening and I got the newbie tour.

Tell him he can consort with enlisted, and they have a lot of pretty girls I am told, but no officers.
And on a serious note, the training can be hard at times, but once he is deployed he will have the time of his life. 😉

So, as I had stated, he'll be off on his way come New Years Day, January 1st, 2019.
The first of every month until then, he has to report to his recruiter office, where they are physically tested.
He just did that for the first time a few days ago(Mon), on the first of October. While he's strong as an ox, his cardio and leg strength/conditioning isn't where it needs to be.
With that in mind, he decided to start jogging a mile a few times a week. Today was the first day, and I'm proud to say I was able to join him this morning. Of course neither of us were able to jog the entire mile without walk breaks in between, but the ball is rolling now. We did some cardio exercise in the pool for about an hour afterwards. Lord knows I need the cardio work myself, along with losing about 15-20 pounds.
As many of you know, I thought I was ready to drop dead of a heart attack or stroke just 4 months ago. I'm really happy those feelings have passed, for the most part, and that I'm able to get out there and do these things today.

Might not work for you, but I have been drinking whey protein shakes on days I work out. Mix it with a couple of bannanas, a cup of milk and some ice. All I eat that day until dinner. I have lost 20 lbs. and gained a lot of muscle mass. My shoulders are getting to the point I may have to go to a double XL. Hoping to lose about 15 more pounds. My gut is half the size it was a few months ago. Hoping it will soon be gone completely.

My gut is half the size it was a few months ago. Hoping it will soon be gone completely. I could do the banana shake. Would I have to give up my whisky sours? Seriously, now that I haven't been working, I've put on maybe 12 - 15 lbs since I quit (March), which is a ton on a 5'2" frame. They key for me is probably being out of the house and active, so I can't drink (other than water) and can't eat other than the quick healthy meal I brought (usually a yogurt, fresh fruit, maybe granola bar). So like, if I started work mid afternoon, I would not drink that whole day until after I got home late eve, maybe one or two tops if I didn't have to wake up early next day. IOW, don't think I'm eating much more, but it's 1) the more fattening stuff I have time to cook, and 2) the mixed drinks. Need more discipline to get out of the house, exercise more, and say no earlier and more often. lol Doc - Hoping that 1 mile is not a stretch, would be surprised if he got accepted that outta shape. At his age, I'd do 2 miles track jog outta the gate just cuz my college roommate did it. I hated it, never loved working out like some people, but it was not especially challenging. Good news is that cardio is way easier to catch up to than 'strength and conditioning', provided your heart is healthy. One of my best friends is late 50s, just started running a few years ago. Never even exercised regularly. Ran the Chicago Marathon the past 2 years. He looks amazing. Anyway, the Air Force must be up there with the Navy Seals with what they demand physically. Unless they only want him for computer brainy type stuff.

Well, one key is to eat dinner early. Helps almost as much as exercise.
Considering how much vodka I still drink, just over the rocks, I am in no position to talk about anyone’s drinking.
